Community Genius: Leveraging Community to Increase your Creative Powers – Shelly Farnham

Shelly Farhham, social scientist and leading expert in community technologies, has spent her professional life researching social media and building online communities.

Hillel Cooperman and the Secret Underground World of Lego

Kids give you license to be kids again. For Hillel Cooperman and his wife, this gave them license to go to Lego conventions, bid on Lego auctions and even turn rooms of their house into Lego rooms.

Ignite Seattle on 2/19! Submit your talk!

It’s been a really long time coming and I am thrilled to be able to announce the next Ignite Seattle is February 19th at the CHAC. W00t, it’s great to be back! At the last one we had over 350 people watch 15 great talks (all of which can be found online). Watch the videos (courtesy of Bryan Zug) to see some excellent talks like Shawn Murphy’s Hacking Chocolate, Elan Lee’s LIFE: If you’re bored, you’re doing it wrong, and Dan Shapiro’s Ten valuable lessons you shouldn’t learn.

On the 19th we are going to have 16 Ask Later talks. These talks will each be 5 minutes long with 20 slides and only 15 seconds a slide. Anyone who did not speak at the last Ignite is welcome to speak. Topics should fall in the realm of web 2.0 technology, entrepreneurship, life hacks, or something else that you think a room full of internet junkies will appreciate. Stories and lessons work better than product demos. Submit your talk by 2/10 (talks are selected on a rolling basis; you’re more likely to get in if you beat the rush that comes at the end). Next Ignites: 6/9 & 8/9

We have two ignites coming up in Seattle. The first one will be Ignite at Seattle BizJam on 6/9. It’s going to be the opening event for the awesome conference aimed at local, independent business owners.

Then on 8/9 we will have our next Ignite Seattle. Save the date!

It will be held at the CHAC. It will open with an Ignite activity run by Bre Pettis starting at 6:30. The activity? A scavenger hunt… of sorts. It will be followed by some Ignite talks. A call for talks will be issued shortly.
