Thursday Throwback: How to Get 5 Million People to Read Your Website (2010)

Matthew Inman gave an Ignite Seattle talk when his famous web comic (www.theoatmeal.com) was just a year old and already getting 5 Million unique users a month. Woah.

He explains how you can get millions of people to read your website, if that isn’t your jam his talk is still good for lots of laughs with a trip through memory lane of his early work. He will also explain why when he dies he wants to come back as a pig.

Thursday Throwback: Collecting Rubber Ducks and the Path to Mastery (2012)

Charlotte Lee is a rubber duck collector, Guinness World Record Holder, Professor at the University of Washington and an amazing Ignite speaker. In her laugh out loud funny talk she shares a path to mastery everyone can follow to become an expert.

Charlotte Lee you’re the one!
You make Ignite lots of fun!
Charlotte Lee we are awfully fond of you.

We Want YOU to Speak at Ignite!

The next Ignite Seattle is Thursday, May 18th at Town Hall!

Share a story about a great (or weird) idea you love, a hard lesson learned, an insight into how something in the world works (or should work), or anything you are passionate about and want to share.

The talk submission deadline is Friday, April 14th at midnight.

Don’t worry if you’re an inexperienced speaker — we provide a couple speaker training sessions to help you craft your story and feel more confident about speaking in front of a crowd.

We want to hear from you! So submit a talk idea and enlighten us  — but make it quick!

Throwback Thursday: How to Make a Viral Video (2013)

Forest Gibson gave a great Ignite talk on making viral videos. However the video of his talk got very little views… isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?

Forest has been involved in some great viral videos:
We’re NASA and We Know It 2.8 M views
Surface vs iPad Leaked TV Ad #SurfaceVSiPad 2.3 M views
Cool Things to Find (Parody of “Dumb Ways to Die”) 5.8M views

So what happened? Although the video of his talk was posted shortly after Ignite, it remained unlisted for 4 years, so no one could see it! On behalf of Ignite Seattle: I am sorry Forest.

Ignite is a 100% volunteer organization and sometimes things happen or in this case don’t happen. If you want to make Ignite better we have small jobs, big jobs, easy jobs, and hard jobs waiting for you, sign up to lend a hand.

Now without any further ado watch and share Forest’s video.

Throwback Thursday: Yes, I’m Having an Identity Crisis (2016)

Sarah Novotny‘s amazing Ignite Seattle talk on her identity crisis is a wake-up call to people on the treadmill of life making decision based on society’s expectations of who they are. Sarah reminds you that you are not your wallet, you are not your shape, and you are not your accomplishments. Then who are you? Watch Sarah’s talk to hear her story and to help discover yourself.

Bonus round:
We were reminded of Sarah’s openness in her Ignite talk, when we saw her rocking the Google Cloud Next ’17 – Day 3 Keynote last week talking about Open Source innovations. Great job Sarah!

And you can watch Sarah’s first Ignite talk here: Living the OG (Original Geek) Lifestyle  It even includes the why behind this crazy thing we know and love… Ignite Seattle.

Throwback Thursday: I am Your Muslim Neighbor (2016)

Amanda Saab gave her fantastic Ignite Seattle talk, I am Your Muslim Neighbor, almost a year ago. She touches on the wonderful accomplishments of American Muslim Women, how the Hijab is her feminist statement, how she won a MasterChef apron, and how food can bring people together.

Check out Amanda’s post Dinner with your Muslim Neighbor for a delicious way to make connections.

Throwback Thursday: I Give You Permission to be a Shitty Parent (2011)

Hillel Cooperman has given many fantastic Ignite talks. Thank you Hillel!

This one is extra special because along with giving an entertaining talk he gives parents, including YOU, permission to be shitty.

Watch, laugh and relax as Hillel gives you permission, examples, and reasons why you should be a shitty parent.
